YOUR FACE HERE… in the largest community art installation in downtown Raleigh

By: Donna|July 7, 2012

I’m a face watcher.  Like a wet finger held to the wind, people’s expressions tell me what front is blowing in.  I saw delighted smiles around the Triangle Transit Board room last week as Karen Porter (Assistant General Counsel) presented BEST’s proposal to transform their Dillon Supply building on the 200 block of South West Street.  These leaders from Orange, Durham and Wake counties showed the same excitement I later observed in DLA members, as they examined the concept developed by Jason Craighead and Patrick Shanahan for this nearly block-long mural in Raleigh’s Warehouse District. There’s a natural wonder and recognition we all feel at the power of art to connect the visionaries inside each of us.

Our words beckon:

COME EACH OF YOU WITH YOUR COLORS AND FORMS FRESH FROM DREAMING.  TOGETHER WE WILL PLACE TRACKS TO A FUTURE BEYOND ANY ONE’S IMAGINING.

We will begin by inviting children to add their handprints and body tracings to a design that will morph into a crowd boarding a train in front of a Raleigh skyscape.  Phase II of the mural expands into a sunburst as the Wright brothers’ plane and other flying machines soar over the North Carolina countryside.  The theme, whether specifically reflecting Triangle Transit’s role in regional transportation or applying to the limitless potential that we all share, is a spectacular celebration of the ways in which we move forward together.

You’re invited to join our
